Sudan, Politics, 10/19/2002

The Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael has stressed the care of the Sudanese government to avail the appropriate atmosphere for peace talks which started between his government and the rebels in Southern Sudan until the talks reach its objectives.

In statements he made on Thursday, Ismael explained that President Omar Hassan al-Bashir gave his directives to the specialized sides to eliminate all obstacles which are impeding access to the relief aid to people effected by war in various Sudanese areas.

On the other hand, Ismael said that the UN Security Council circulated Sudan's complaint against Eritrea following its aggression against East Sudan, and that the council is waiting for steps to be taken by the African federation concerning this complaint.

He added that Sudan, so far has not notified the date for the arrival of the specialized committee of the African federation fact finding to investigate the Eritrea's aggression against Sudan. He called on the government of Eritrea to accept the existence of African peace forces to be placed on the borders between the two countries and to close the camps of the Sudanese rebels movement in it.
