Head of daily fined for libel against fellow journalist

Mohamed Brini, director of Al-Ahdat Al-Maghribya daily, was fined 20,000 dirhams (roughly US$ 2,000) by a Casablanca court, for libel against Driss Mrini, who is in charge of production at the Moroccan first TV channel RTM.
Mrini had sued Brini for "defamation and libel" in stories ran by Al-Ahdat Al-Maghribya, a daily close to the Socialist Union of Popular Forces of outgoing Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi.
The daily accused the RTM journalist of mismanagement and corruption.
The daily was also fined another 100,000 dirhams (nearly US$ 10,000) and to sentenced to publish the court ruling.
