Syria-Regional, Politics, 10/18/2002

The Syrian deputy premier and foreign minister Farouk al-Shara on Thursday received the Norway's special envoy for the Middle east peace process and members of the accompanying delegation.

The meeting was attended by the deputy foreign minister Walid al-Mu'allim and Norway's ambassador in Damascus.

Discussions dealt with the tense conditions in the region due to the continued Israeli attacks against the Palestinians and the threats made against Iraq.

Al-Shara said that Israel is responsible for the burial of the ME peace process and instead is pursuing the policy of destruction and besiege against the Palestinian people.

He noted that there are no justification for attacking Iraq and the need that the UN should be a framework and reference in dealing with international issues.
