Libyan committee inspects Eritrea - Sudan borders
Sudan-Eritrea, Politics, 10/18/2002

The Sudanese opposition announced on Wednesday that it has accompanied a delegation representing Libyan mediators to the areas it recently controlled in Eastern Sudan in order to prove that Eritrea is not taking part in the fighting taking place between it and the government forces.

The spokesman for the rebels Yasser Araman said he is speaking from Hamshkorb city which is close from the borders with Eritrea which was controlled by the rebellions on October 5. He added he is accompanied as from Asmara a Libyan delegation chaired by Col. Hassan al-Marhoun to prove that the "claims of the Sudanese government concerning the existence of Eritrea's soldiers are not correct." He added that "the delegation learnt that there is not one Eritrean soldier." Araman denied that Eritrea had prevented an African investigation committee to investigate the accusations addressed by Khartoum against Eritrea of supporting the rebels of John Garang.

In Abu Dhabi, the Sudanese minister of oil Awad al-Jaz unveiled that the volume of foreign investments in Sudan in the sector of oil reached 6 billion dollars in "direct money or equipment."
