Madrid Hosts Euro-Mediterranean forum of Women MPs

The third Euro-Mediterranean forum of women members of parliament will open, next Thursday at the Spanish Senate, to discuss women conditions and hindrances to gender equality.

This forum which will be an opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss ways to guarantee equal opportunities for men and women in educational and professional fields and to fight violence and ill treatment against women.

The forums' recommendations will be submitted to various parliamentary institutions in the euro-Mediterranean region.

The first euro-Mediterranean forum was held in Italy, one year after it had been set-up at the conference of the European parliaments' speakers in Palma de Majorque.

The second forum was held in Malte in 2001.
