Qatar: Washington did not ask for using our bases
Qatar-USA, Politics, 10/16/2002
The Qatari foreign minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasem Bin Jaber al-Thani said on Tuesday in Kuwait that his country opposes any war led by the US against Iraq, but Doha has not yet decided whether it will permit Washington to use its bases for such an attack because the Americans did not make such a request.
Sheikh Hamad told the press upon his arrival in Kuwait "our position is clear concerning any military act." adding that "so far the US has not decided it," expressing hope that Iraq will accept the UN inspectors.
Replying to a question on whether Qatar will permit Washington to use its military establishments in case a war is launched, he noted that this question is premature and no body has yet talked with Qatar about this matter.
Replying to a question on the conflict with Saudi Arabia he said he does not want to go into details of this case. He added relations with Saudi Arabia are important and strong, adding " should there will be any difference it will be solved calmly."
