Syria: membership of al-Homsi, Seif in the parliament dropped
Syria, Politics, 10/16/2002

In an evening session for the Syrian parliament on Monday, the Speaker of the Syrian parliament Abdul Qader Qaddoura announced dropping the membership of the two Syrian members of parliament Ma'moun al-Homsi and Riad Seif from the parliament and considering their seats as empty.

Qaddoura based his decision on the message forwarded by the minister of justice Nabih al-Khatib in which he notified the People's Assembly officially that the court of cassation ratified the decisions of the criminal court to jail each of al-Homsi and Seif for five years under the charges of undermining the constitution and trying to provoke civilian riots and distributing booklets violating the state security.
