Sudan denies Sanaa tripartite summit to target isolation of Eritrea
Sudan-Eritrea, Politics, 10/16/2002

Qutbi al-Mahdi, the political advisor for the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, has denied that the tripartite summit which was held in Sanaa on Monday between the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir and the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, together with the Ethiopian prime minister Malas Zenawi to have targeted isolation of Eritrea or working to topple its regime.

In a TV statement he made on Monday evening, al-Mahdi strongly criticized the policies conducted by the Eritrean President Asyas Afourki. He renewed his country's accusation against Eritrea of supporting the rebels in the aggression against East Sudan, noting that the rebels are unable to enter the Sudanese eastern area, unless they are backed and supported by Eritrea.

Al-Mahdi attributed the aims behind signing the truce agreement between the Sudanese government and the rebels in Nairobi on Monday on halting fighting during negotiations to the desire of his government to finding out a mechanism for monitoring and separating between forces so as the agreement will be sustainable.
