Chinese poet receives Moroccan Argana poetry prize

Chinese poet Bei Dao has won the Moroccan poetry house's international Argana prize for his entire works that "reflect a modernist esthetical consciences of the situation of humans today."
Chairman of the poetry house, Mohamed Bennis, stressed that by awarding the prize to Bei Dao, the jury wanted to pay tribute to a poet who succeeded in blending the virtues of the Chinese traditional poetry, with the capacity of integrating it in the internationality while preserving his deep imaginary and captivating sensitivity.
Bei Dao's poetry says words that are heartrending to humanity while honoring his commitment to the destitute and those who suffer, hence his visit to Palestine to show his solidarity with the Palestinian people, said Bennis.
Born in 1949, the recipient of the US$ 8,000-worth prize is the founder of the first Chinese independent literary magazine.
