The Syrian foreign ministry on Sunday morning summoned the US ambassador in Damascus and gave him an official protest on what was promoted by spokesmen by the US Department of State on the Syrian- Russian cooperation in the field of nuclear researches.

Khartoum announces it has Eritrean prisoners; truce with the rebels, today
Sudan announced it holds Eritrean prisoners who were fighting beside the rebels in the eastern parts of the country, while the warring Sudanese sides are expected to sign a peace agreement today in order to halt the fighting, during the negotiations aiming at suspending the war which erupted 19 years ago.

Eritrea asks Arab League to ease tension between it, Sudan
Eritrea on Sunday asked the Arab League to interfere in order to calm down the tension in the relations between it and Sudan after Khartoum confirmed that the Eritrean army supported the Sudanese rebels and opposition in the recent attacks in East Sudan.

Iraqi Kurdish delegation visits Syria
A delegation representing the Kurdistani National Federation in Iraq led by al-Suleimaneyah prime minister in Kurdistan district Barham Saleh started a visit to Syria that will last for four days during which he will be meeting with Syrian officials, especially with the Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam and the assistant secretary general of the Baath Party Abdullah al-Ahmar.

Kasla governor says rebels may attack again

Extinct an-Nuq re-discovered within syrian al Badia by Palmyra FAO project
A relict breeding colony of critically endangered Bald Ibis (Geronticus eremita), an insectivorous colonial cliff-nesting bird, was discovered during the spring 2002 by UN-FAO project GCP/SYR/009/ITA within Al Badia. The news has drawn the attention of conservationists and media world-wide. This legendary and iconic bird is in fact also one of the rarest and most critically endangered wildlife species on earth.

Israeli forces kill three Palestinians, including one child; houses demolished
The Palestinian child Tawfiq Breika ( four year old) was shot and other 25 Palestinians were wounded on Sunday at dawn during the Israeli forces demolishing of two houses on top of their inhabitants while they were sleeping in Rafah which was stormed in by the Israeli forces without warning. The Israeli forces destroyed five houses, three workshops and three agricultural firms.

Morocco's tobacco company to be privatized; $ 800 mln in sales
The Moroccan state-owned tobacco company has sold in 2001 a total of 14.2 billion cigarettes and posted sales of 8.89 billion DH (US$ 838.6 Mln), compared to 8,42 billion DH (US$ 794.3 Mln) in 2000.
