Assafir: Lebanon denies US request to postpone pumping al-Wazzani river water

A high ranking diplomatic source at the Lebanese foreign ministry has denied the US to have asked Lebanon to postpone the date for pumping waters from al-Wazzani river or to cancel this process.

In a statement to the Lebanese daily Assafir issued on Friday, the source added that Lebanon was not informed anything official from the US to this effect, and eventually did not ask the US mediation concerning the water issue, adding that Lebanon does not want mediation between itself and Israel, because the UN is the place for considering such an issue.

The source added that Lebanon is convinced of its rights and position when it announced that the UN is the reference and had conveyed its stand to the UN, documented through the report which it sent to the UN secretary general Kofi Annan.
