Al-Mustaqbal: Al-Bashir vows commitment to establish peace in southern Sudan
Sudan, Politics, 10/12/2002
The Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir has stressed his country's commitment to reach a final agreement to establish peace and stability in southern Sudan.
In a statement to the Lebanese daily al-Mustaqbal issued on Friday, the Sudanese President explained that his country is ready to return back to the table of negotiations with the rebels if they adhere to items approved in Mashakos 1 agreement and observe cease fire.
Al-Bashir said that the US has changed its policy towards Sudan following direct meetings and talks that preceded the September 11 events, and expressed his satisfaction over the future of relations between the two countries.
The Sudanese president strongly criticized the policy pursued by the government of Eritrea towards Sudan and accused it of adopting an aggressive policy against Sudan.
