Indian wheat exports resumed to Iraq
Iraq-India, Economics, 10/12/2002
Indian trade sources said on Friday that it was decided to resume wheat exports to Iraq later this month after Iraq had refused Indian shipments in May because the Indian wheat does not meet quality standards.
The director of the Indian Berianca Overseas company said that his company will face no difficulty with Iraq because the company had solved the problem of quality control.
Several Indian companies got contracts in 2002 to export 350,000 tons of wheat of Iraq according to the UN "oil for food" agreement at a cost of 203 dollars per ton including shipment costs.
Iraqi traders say that wheat exports to Iraq from India, which owns large storage of cereals, are estimated at 63.5 million tons. Iraq imports 3.3 million tons of wheat annually.
