Arab League chief praises Moroccan legislative polls

Secretary General of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, lauded the climate of transparency and democracy that prevailed during the legislative elections held in Morocco last September 27, describing the experience as "positive and important."
"These elections are undoubtedly an important experience and a great step that we follow with interest," Amr Moussa said, congratulating Morocco for the achievement which he called "a pilot experience."
The head of the pan-Arab organization made the statement after a consultation meeting of the league, held in Cairo Tuesday at the level of permanent representatives.
During the meeting, dedicated to the latest developments on the Arab scene, particularly the Palestinian and Iraqi issues, Morocco's permanent representative was asked by Amr Moussa to make a presentation on the September 27 legislative elections.
The Moroccan representative stressed the determination of King Mohammed VI to make of the September 27 polls a rendezvous with democracy, and the measures taken to ensure their good conduct. He also informed the meeting on the move take to assign women at least 30 seats.
