Al-Shara reviews with Valunis ME developments: UN for settling international issues
Syria-Lithuania, Politics, 10/10/2002

Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara on Wednesday met with Lithuania's foreign minister and members of the accompanying delegation.

The meeting was attended by the deputy foreign minister Walid al-Mu'allim and foreign ministry officials concerned.

Discussions dealt with conditions in the region and the Baltic area. Al-Shara indicated the tense conditions in the region as a result of the continued Israeli attacks against the unarmed Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories and the threats to attack Iraq.

In this regard, al-Shara stressed the need of putting an end to the sufferings of the Palestinian people through pressuring Israel to abide by international law.

He stressed Syria's deliberate rejection to directing any military attack against Iraq, amed at its unity and territorial integrity.

Al-Shara also stressed the need that the UN will be the reference and framework in dealing with all international issues.

Discussions also dealt with bilateral relations between Syria and Lithuania and the two sides expressed joint desire to develop bilateral relations in various fields.
