Al-Assad received Saxonia's prime minister, Lithuania's FM on economic issues

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday in Damascus received the prime minister of lower Saxonia's state in the Federal Republic of Germany Sigmar Gabriel and members of the accompanying delegation.

The meeting was attended by the minister of the economy and foreign trade and the German ambassador in Damascus.

Discussions during the meeting dealt with current issues in the world especially in the Middle East.

The president noted Syria's view point concerning the course of events in the region especially in Palestine because of the Israeli occupation. He also noted the need to have peace prevailed as a basic factor for stability to achieving peace and promoting the economy.

Stress was laid on the importance of deepening ties of cooperation between the two countries regarding economic, scientific and technical aspects.

President al-Assad also received later in the day, Lithuania's foreign minister and members of the accompanying delegation.

Discussions during the two meetings dealt with bilateral relations between the two countries and the importance of developing them especially in the economic fields and drawing agreements that would contribute to attracting businessmen to invest in each of the two countries.

The Lithuania's foreign minister and his companions arrived in Damascus on Tuesday in a visit to Syria. He is accompanied by a business delegation.
