Al-Hayat: Al-Barazani: changing the Iraqi regime is inevitable
Iraq, Politics, 10/9/2002

The leader of the Kurdistani Democratic Party, Masoud al-Barazani, said that the issue of the American attack against Iraq for changing the regime has become inevitable, however, it date and place has not been determined yet.

In a statement to the London- based al-Hayat daily issued on Tuesday, al-Barazani proposed the establishment of a democratic federal system in Iraq, denying the desire to establish a Kurdish state in northern Iraq.

Al- Barazani said:" we have explained our position in rejecting to partition Iraq to all neighboring states. He expressed his conviction that "our brothers in Syria are convinced of that position." Al-Barazani indicated that the current position is differ from that of 1991 when the Americans deceived the Iraqi people and permitted the Iraqi army to use tanks and planes during the "Intifada" (uprising) of the Kurdish people.

He said he asked for American guarantees to this effect during his meetings with important American officials in Europe.
