Hurriyet: Irbil meeting alleviated Ankara's concern
Iraq-Turkey, Politics, 10/9/2002
Turkish daily Hurriyet has stated that the meeting of the Kurdish parliament last week in Ibril has alleviated Ankara's concern, describing the results of the meeting as fair.
In its Monday's issue, the paper said that the Kurdish leaders in Iraq are moving carefully in order to leave the door open with Ankara.
The paper expressed Turkey's concern of Washington's use of the Iraqi Kurds in a forthcoming military operation against Iraq, and thereby the emergence of the possibility of Kurds making use of "war disorder" to form an independent state. This, however, the paper said, will convert northern Iraq into a center for an escalated tension in the Turkish- American dialogue.
