Jordanian prince wants to revive a new Middle East region
Jordan-Palestine, Politics, 10/7/2002

Prince Hassan, the cousin of the Jordanian King Abdullah II, said in a statement to the Israeli daily Yadhout Ahronot that he wants to revive the hope of a "new Middle East region."

Prince Hassan explained "I want to form a team, in order to study regional affairs including representatives for the Arab and Islamic states in the region and abroad, in order to think altogether with Israeli representatives in the Middle East region, away from limelight and the mass media."

He indicated that works of this team will start in November in Istanbul, Turkey.

He added that "for us ( the Jordanians), Jerusalem and Tel Aviv are one hour drive by car from Jordan, and we feel that you ( the Israelis ) are living on the (other) side of the moon." Prince Hassan described the "martyrdom" operations by the Palestinians as "catastrophic and have to be condemned."

Prince Hassan also criticized the Palestinians because they have not "realized" they have become "terrorists, if not in the eyes of the world, at least in the eyes of the Israelis, because they have surpassed their right to legitimate resistance of occupation."
