Cim: a new conflict in north Iraq
Iraq-Turkey, Politics, 10/7/2002

Leaders of the New Turkey party and former foreign minister Ismael Cim has stated that the northern Iraq will be shortly dragged into a long and new conflict between the Arabs and the Kurds that reminds us of the Palestinian- Israeli conflict, noting that the Kurdish state which was actually formulated in the region is backed by foreign sources that stand against the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

In a press conference he held on Saturday in Ankara, Cim stressed that need of protecting the Turkish interests, and exerting more efforts in order to prevent the eruption of the war which will change many balances in the region.

He also indicated the need of ensuring a security belt and build residential camps for refugees outside the Turkish borders. He explained that this will be in case the US will carry out military operations against Iraq that will result in the flow of a new wave of refugees into Turkey.
