Bahrain proposes sending a Gulf delegation to Iraq
Bahrain on Friday proposed sending a delegation from the Gulf states to Baghdad, Iraq, in order to discuss "means of getting out of the current bottleneck" despite the fact that Bahrain's crown prince and commander of defense forces Sheikh Hamad Bin Issa al-Khaleifa criticized the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein saying he "succeeded in dividing the Arab homeland."

Confrontations in all territories, Israel kills one Palestinian, detains scores
Six Palestinian were wounded including one child in a critical health condition when the Israeli forces opened fire at Palestinians performing their prayers at al-Aqsa mosque. A United Nations human rights expert is set to visit Saudi Arabia later this month, the first time an authority from the Geneva-based UN Commission on Human Rights has been invited by the government for an official mission. Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, is schedule to visit Saudi Arabia from 20 to 27 October. Go

Some Bahraini politicians spoke of some threats against certain candidates for the parliamentary elections which will be held on October 24. One candidate for these elections said that he is concerned because of some harassment he has faced. He explained that a threat was made to him in a message from outside Bahrain through his mobile telephone. Another candidate received threats that also expressed this concern, but he said he will not withdraw from the parliament, rather "will stand steadfast until the end." Go

The Russian deputy foreign minister has stressed his country's rejection to adopt a new UN Security Council resolution relating to Iraq. Go

The White House announced the launching of negotiations for the conclusion of a free trade accord (FTA) with Morocco. The announcement came in a memorandum, published by the White House on Thursday, whereby President George W. Bush authorizes US Trade Representative, Robert Zoelick to inform the congress of the Federal government's intention to start commercial negotiations with Morocco for the creation of a bilateral free trade area. An official aid on Friday said that Saudi Arabia's King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz arrived back on Friday evening to the kingdom after the end of his vacation in the Spanish resort of Marbaya. The official confirmed that "the King arrived safe." Go

Significant progress was scored in all the issues to be studied by the Morocco-Saudi Arabia Joint Commission, to be convened in Saudi Arabia October 6-7, especially concerning economy and investment bilateral cooperation, Moroccan ambassador of Arab and Islamic affairs, Mohammed Azeroual said. Go

The UN Security Council on Thursday extended for an additional 6 months the mission of the UN observer forces deployed since 1991 in the disarmed area between Iraq and Kuwait. Go

An opinion poll whose results issued on Friday by the Israeli daily Maareve revealed that the policy of the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon registered a slight decrease in popularity among the Israelis. Go
