Al-Bashir gets a message from Moi
Sudan-Kenya, Politics, 10/5/2002
The Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir has received a message from the Kenyan President Daniel Arap Moi relating to the efforts made by the Kenyan president to resume negotiations between the Sudanese government and the rebel movement in Southern Sudan under the leadership of John Garang.
The message was handed by the special envoy for the Kenyan President Gen, Lazaras Simboya during his meeting on Thursday evening in Khartoum.
In a statement following the meeting, the advisor of the Sudanese president for peace affairs Ghazi Salah Eddine said the Kenyan envoy came to Khartoum in order to get acquainted with stances, and that he had discussed with the Sudanese officials the proposals he was carrying.
He added that the mission of the Kenyan envoy will not be complete unless he will meet with the other side, namely the rebel movement, and that he will make consultations with officials in certain IGAD member states in order to reach a formula that deals with reasons which were conducive to suspending negotiations between Khartoum and the rebels.
