ISESCO urges international community to press Israel stop excavations under al-Aqsa mosque
Palestine-Regional, Politics, 10/4/2002
The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) exhorted the international community to intervene urgently to stop the excavations Israel is conducting under Al-Quds' Al-Aqsa Mosque, says a release from the Rabat-based organization.
In its call to the Islamic world and the world community, ISESCO denounces "Israel's policy that supports its most fanatical groups' schemes to undermine the basements of the mosque.
The ISESCO warned against carrying on the excavation works, currently conducted under the wall of the holy shrine's south side. "The ultimate objective is to build the temple of King Solomon on the ruins of the Holy Mosque."
The Islamic Organization called world organizations, mainly its United Nations peer the UNESCO, to launch a campaign to save the mosque which it recalled is "not only a sacred place for the world's one billion and 250 million Muslims, but also a historic monument of the world heritage."
