Iraqi presidential envoy visits Doha on Monday

Well-informed sources in Doha said that the Iraqi foreign minister Naji Sabri will start a visit to Doha on Monday for two day as a special envoy for the Iraqi President. The sources added Sabri's visit will be in the context of a plenary Gulf tour which will start today by a visit to Bahrain and then the United Arab Emirates UAE and then Qatar and to be followed by Oman.

Sabri will hand a message to the ruler of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khaleifah al-Thani from the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and will hold talks with the Qatari foreign minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasem Bin Jaber al-Thani.

The sources added that Saddam's message to the ruler of Qatar will concentrate on explaining and clarifying the dimensions of Baghdad's vision towards the accelerated developments concerning the Iraqi issue.

The sources indicated that Doha has a special importance in the Iraqi diplomatic move towards the Gulf region in light of the remarkable relations between the two sides, noting in this context the pivotal role played by the Qatari diplomacy towards avoiding Iraq any military strike. This was however, reflected in the very important message held by the recent visit held by the Qatari foreign minister to Baghdad.

The sources indicated that Sabri will seek during his tour to get assertions of the said four Arab states ( Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and the UAE) not to take part in any military action against his country in light of their announced stances to this effect.
