Muasher: Jordan pressures Iraq to honor UN resolutions
Jordan-Iraq, Politics, 10/4/2002

The Jordanian foreign minister Marwan Muasher said on Thursday in Geneva that Jordan is putting pressure on the Iraqi government to honor UN resolutions to avoid a military attack that might be negatively reflected on the interests of the region as a whole.

In a statement, Muasher added "Jordan's basic responsibility lies in avoiding the region a military attack, and this is what we did in collaboration with other Arab states and the international community and simultaneously to pressure the Iraqi government to abide by UN resolutions and agree on the return back of UN inspectors unconditionally."

He continued that this is "the only way to avoid attacking the region," noting that the military attack will not only affect Iraq's interests but also the interests of Jordan and the region.
