King Mohammed receives political parties leaders

Morocco's King Mohammed VI received Wednesday at the Royal Palace in Marrakesh, leaders of several political parties.
The king received successively Abderrahmane Youssoufi, First Secretary of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), Ahmed Osman, President of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) and Abbas El Fassi, Secretary General of the Istiqlal Party (PI), Mohand Laensar, Secretary General of the Popular Movement (MP), Mahjoubi Aherdane, Secretary General of the National Popular Movement (MNP), Saad-Eddine Al-Othmani, Assistant Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), who represented Dr. Abdelkerom El-Khatib, PJD secretary general, currently in hospital.
King Mohammed VI phoned El-Khatib in the morning to wish him prompt recovery and to tell him he will receive him as soon as he recovers.
The royal audiences came after the proclamation of the final results of the legislative elections, held last Friday in Morocco.
According to the results announced Tuesday by Interior Minister, Driss Jettou, the USFP came first with 50 seats, followed by the PI with 48, the PJD with 42, the RNI with 41, the MP with 27 and the MNP with 18.
Remaining seats were divided among other parties.
During the separate audiences, the political leaders voiced to the King their satisfaction at the exemplary conditions of transparency and rigor wherein the legislative elections of September 27 unfolded.
During the audiences, King Mohammed VI stressed the importance of the role political parties should play in the nation's political life in accordance with the constitution and with the requirements of popular free expression and within the respect of all Moroccan citizens' choice.
The king equally underlined the historic significance of the September 27 poll through which Morocco won a great victory.
King Mohammed VI congratulated each of the political parties for the success of the elections and stressed the paramount necessity for Morocco to build a lasting and sustainable economic and social development marked by solidarity and to which the Moroccan people aspires.
