Israels breaks to Tammoun village, close schools; Peres: Intifada fatigued Israel
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 10/3/2002

UNICEF has asked Israel to permit the Palestinian children to go to school in implementation of the Fourth Geneva agreement and the Child Rights Agreement.

Three Israeli settlers admitted to having planned to destroy an elementary school in Jerusalem by using a barrel of explosives they tried to bring in to the school. To this effect the Israeli radio said that similar operations were carried out recently by the settlers.

The Israeli forces broke into Tammoun village to the east of Jenin and destroyed the house of Muhammad Besharat, the "Islamic Jihad" official in the village said.

The Israeli forces also launched a mopping up operations in the cities and villages of the West Bank during which seven Palestinians were arrested including two members of the Hamas resistance movement and Muhammad Manaserah, one member of the Fatah movement in Bani Naem village, in al-Khalil under the pretext of resisting the occupation.

The Israeli forces also blocked Beit Hanoun crossing in Gaza and arrested one citizen and prevented the Palestinian workers from having access to their work, and the Israeli forces also prevented UNRWA's commissioner Peter Hansen from reaching al-Mawasi area in Rafah to be acquainted with the situation of the Palestinians there.

Meantime, the Israeli foreign minister Shimon Peres admitted that the Palestinian Intifada has fatigued Israel politically and economically. He said it is difficult for Israel to bear the dear price it pays as a result of the Intifada.
