Syria US Congress decision on Jerusalem violates international law, supports occupation
Syria-Palestine, Politics, 10/3/2002
The Syrian foreign ministry has studied the decision taken by the US Congress, on that Jerusalem is a capital for Israel, and ratified by US President George Bush.
The Syrian foreign ministry sees in this decision as the US violation to the rules of the international law especially UN Security Council resolutions which were approved by the US and considered the city of Jerusalem as part of the occupied Arab territories occupied by Israel in 1967.
"This grave decision once again proved the flagrant American bias to the continued Israeli occupation for Jerusalem and the occupied Arab lands and the unlimited support provided by the US for Israel which still rejects the implementation of more than 28 UN resolutions issued by the UN security council," Syria said.
At a time when Syria rejects this decision and warns against the consequences of implementing it on the region's security and peace, Syria urged the US administration not to implement it and also the Arabs and Muslims alike to revitalize the resolutions of the Arab and Islamic summits concerning Jerusalem and calls on convening an urgent meeting for the Jerusalem committee in order to take measures that can guarantee the rights of Arabs and Muslims in the city of Jerusalem.
