Jordan: Six Islamists released, paper suspended
Jordan, Politics, 10/3/2002

The state security court in Amman on Wednesday found not guilty six members presumed to be in an extremist organization convicted in 1999 of committing a series of explosions in Jordan.

After the chairman of the court Col. Fawaz al-Baqqour read the sentence, families and relatives of the convicted persons in the court hall expressed their happiness by chanting "God is great." The court gave no details in the case whose trial procedures started on September 23, and just announced the not guilty verdict on the 6 accused men.

On the other hand, the board of the Arab investment media company which published the Jordanian daily al-Aswaq ( the markets ) announced the suspension of the paper for two weeks starting as from Wednesday for financial reasons. The board decided to suspend it "until an extraordinary meeting of the general commission will be convened on October 16 in order to decide then, either to stop issuing the paper ultimately or to resume its publication.."
