Israeli planes violate the Lebanese airspace
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 10/2/2002
Lebanon said on Tuesday that the Israeli planes flew intensively and at low altitude in the Lebanese airspace over Beirut and other parts of the Lebanese territories and that the Lebanese Hizbullah party opened its anti- aircraft missiles against them.
Lebanon explained that Israeli planes broke the sound barrier over the Lebanese capital Beirut for the first time since two months, saying that the Israeli warplanes flew over north Lebanon and the western Bekaa where the Syrian sources are deployed and broke the sound barrier over Tripoli and Baalbeck.
The Israeli planes flew at a low altitude over all sectors of south Lebanon adjoining Israel and where the Hizbullah fighters are deployed.
Lebanon stressed that the Israeli warplanes flying over South Lebanon was the heaviest since Israel's pullout from this area in May 2000 following 22 years of occupation.
