Sabri confers with American Congressmen

The Iraqi foreign minister Naji Sabri has stressed Iraq's readiness to cooperate with the UN weapons inspectors, stressing that Iraq is free from all mass destruction weapons.

In a statement to the press, an official at the Iraqi foreign ministry said that Sabri stressed during his meeting on Friday evening with one of three American Congressmen, currently visiting Baghdad, Iraq's implementation of all UN Security Council resolutions.

Sabri said that the visit of the three American Congressmen David Bonior, Mike Thompson, and Jim McDermott who expressed their readiness to exert efforts in order to avoid the war and build peace and security constitutes a participation to building common understanding between the Iraqi and American peoples and the establishments concerned in the two countries.

Meantime, the Iraqi acting chairman of the national council Hamid al-Rawi on Saturday received members of the US Congress. The two sides reviewed the relations between Iraq and the UN Security Council and the continued American threats to launch a new aggression.
