Al-Turkman against partition of Iraq
Iraq-Turkey, Politics, 9/30/2002
The representative of the Turkmani front in Turkey, Mustafa Zayya, has stressed the rejection of the Turkman to any formation that would result in threatening Iraq's territorial integrity, stressing that they are using all measures, including armed confrontation in order to ensure Iraq is not partitioned.
In a meeting with journalists on Saturday in Ankara on the sideline of the meeting of the Iraqi Turkmani opposition in Afanos district, downtown of Anadolia, Zayya said "as Turkmans we stress first the realization of democracy in Iraq after which the Iraqis will decide the sort of the political structure in future. He indicated that Turkey will enter Iraq only for protecting the safety of the area. He said that his view is that there is no need for the deployment of the Turkish army into the north of Iraq.
On the other hand, the Turkish daily Sabah indicated Saturday that two American diplomats who are responsible for the political affairs at the US embassy in Ankara pulled out from the second session of the Iraqi opposition meeting after the Turkmans criticized Washington and described it as "a Satan."
