Palestinian Intifada in its third year, persistence to resist, Israeli forces alert

Today, September 28, 2002, the Palestinian Intifada enters its third year with strong determination to continue militant struggle by all means.
On Friday early morning, the Palestinian Intifada fighters detonated an Israeli tank at the Gate of Jenin camp in the West Bank at a time when the Israeli forces were out in a state of alert for Palestinian operation that might take place on this occasion.
The spokesman for the Israeli police Jail Kleiman said that thousands of Israeli soldiers and police men were deployed in the main cities and round the trade centers and bus stations and military check points were increased on the main roads and the entrances of cities in all parts of Israel and what is called "the green line" which separates the West Bank and Israel.
Meantime, the Palestinian youth Mahmoud Jamal was shot by the Israeli soldiers in al-Khalil under the pretext of resisting the Israeli occupation especially in the cities of Ramullah, Jenin and Nablus, while the Israeli forces prevented persons under 40 year old from performing Friday's prayers at al-Aqsa Mosque.
A Palestinian security source said that the Israeli forces backed by 30 tanks and armored vehicles incurred from two axes in Deir al-Balah under fire shelling at the houses of the Palestinians which were greatly damages. The source added that the Israeli forces carried out an inspection and breaking in operation of the Palestinian houses and destroyed one house under the pretext that its owner belongs to the Islamic Jihad movement.
