Egypt: 'Computer for every student' projects

Every boy student and girl student will be able to own a computer under a new national project to be launched for the first time under the motto "Computer for Every Student". The project will be carried out at all schools in Egypt.

The price of computers will be paid in installments over years and will be added to the monthly electricity bill.

Minister of Education Hussein Kamel Bahaa Eddieen said Wednesday that the project would be carried out under an agreement reached between the ministries of education and electricity.

The price of computers will be less than those on the market. The Ministry of Education and the educational project support fund will pay the price of computers to companies supplying them.

The Minister of Education said the project would be carried out in compliance with the assignments of President Mubarak to provide computers for all students who cannot afford to buy them in cash.

The Minister said that professional private lessons would be transferred to remote areas to keep them away from the areas in which they used to exercise their activities.
