Kuwait: the final say is today on political rights of women
Kuwait, Politics, 9/25/2002
The Kuwaiti constitutional court will today issue its final say concerning giving political rights to Kuwaiti woman.
One Kuwaiti activist, Kawthar al-Jou'an, has filed a case against the ministry of the interior when the ministry abstained from registering her name in the elections lists and prevented her form practicing her political rights. Earlier the administrative court in Kuwait refused to decide in this matter.
Kuwaiti women activists consider that depriving women of their political rights as a violation to the constitution.
Kuwait's Amir Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah enacted a decree provided for giving women their political rights as from 2003 but the Kuwaiti nation's council ( the parliament) refused to approve the decision, losing approval by two votes.
