Islamist threat will never affect Morocco, premier
Morocco, Politics, 9/23/2002
"There is no fear to see the Islamist threat affect Morocco," Moroccan Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi, said Friday.
Morocco, which has shared borders with Algeria --a country trapped in a spiral of Islamist violence since 1992-- has always been shielded against this phenomenon thanks to the sound organization of citizens by political parties, trade unions and NGOs, Youssoufi told the Hiwar Al-Oussbou program aired by the Middle East Broadcasting Center (MBC).
Youssoufi underlined that "thanks to its vigilance and the sustained action of the security services, Morocco dismantled a terrorist network before it translates its plans into action."
He noted that "what happened was of limited range." A judicial action is under way and the concerned persons have their cases handled by the justice in total transparency," he said.
