Baghdad rejects any new UN resolution, US publishes war details
Iraq-USA, Politics, 9/23/2002

The US has announced readiness to attack Iraq and on Sunday almost detailed plans were leaked about the American attacks and the targets which will be first attacked and the role of various types of weapons and forces, while Baghdad rejected any new UN resolution concerning the dismantling of its weapons that Washington is trying to have issued by the UN Security Council.

All these came at a time when Israel repeated its determination to strike Iraq if it will be exposed to an attack by Iraq, despite the warnings made by the American officials on that any Israeli intervention in the conflict will lead to a large scale war in the Middle East.

The New York Times yesterday reported the US President has received the military options for any attack on Iraq and that "Mobilizing for a possible attack on Iraq, American commanders have taken many steps to prepare and deploy their forces, Defense Department and military officials say. But the early steps have been calculated not to interfere with the Bush administration's campaign to build diplomatic and political support for taking action."

On the other hand, on Saturday Iraq warned it will not deal with any new resolution to be issued by the UN Security Council that does not comply with the agreement maintained with the UN secretary general Kofi Annan concerning the weapons dismantling program.

The Iraqi official news agency quoted an Iraqi official spokesman saying that "Iraq declares it will not deal with any new UN resolution that will be in contradiction to what was agreed upon with the UN chief Kofi Annan" concerning the weapons inspection operations resumption. The New York Times also quoted Israeli and American officials saying that the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon informed the White House that his government intends to retaliate if it will be exposed to an attack by Iraq, noting that Sharon's statements reflect a change in the Israeli thinking different from that of the Gulf war in 1991.
