Iraq calls on Russia to prevent US goals; plundering Arab oil resources

The Iraqi deputy Premier Tareq Aziz on Wednesday accused the US that of wanting to attack Iraq in order to "plunder" the oil resources of Iraq and the Arab states.

Meantime, the Iraqi foreign minister Naji Sabri called on Russia, the close alley for Baghdad, to prevent the adoption of any US sponsored new resolution against Baghdad which would allow resort to force against Iraq.

The Iraqi news agency quoted Aziz as saying upon receiving two socialist Belgian parliamentarians currently visiting Baghdad that "fabrication of accusations policy pursued by the US administration through threatening to launch a military attack against Iraq aims at controlling the region to plunder its resources. " Aziz called on the international community to "unmask the American schemes which threaten peace in the world," stressing "the solidarity of the Iraqi people under the wise leadership of the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein."

For his part, Sabri expressed in New York his hope that "the position of Russia and all countries in the world regarding the aggressive American policy will be based on the principles of the international law and the UN charter, and in compliance with the UN Security Council resolutions with the aim of attaining comprehensive development to meet these resolutions."
