Al-Hayat: Syrian, Egyptian, Saudi messages to Iraq
Regional-Iraq, Politics, 9/19/2002

Egyptian political sources in Cairo told the London- based al-Hayat daily in its Wednesday's issue that Syria, Egypt and Saudi Arabia sent three messages to the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein through their foreign ministers demanding Saddam Hussein accept the return back of the UN inspectors and to avoid the region and the Iraqi people great destruction.

The paper said, quoting these sources, that the three messages to Saddam Hussein did not give guarantees for the likely behavior of the American administration, but gave a full explanation on the inflicted consequences of rejecting the return back of the UN inspectors.

The sources added that the contacts of the three Arab capitals with Baghdad have not stopped, rather are strong and arranged, and are in all areas.

The same sources ruled out the convening of a quartet summit in Sharm Esh Sheikh including Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan but did not rule out bilateral summits.
