Foreign experts start training Palestinian police in Arieha

A source close to the Palestinian security department said that foreign army officers started on Monday training members from the Palestinian security police in Areiha in the West Bank.

The source said that the training operation started on Monday morning and covered 30 members of the Palestinian preventive security, the general intelligence, the police and the civil defense came from Gaza and the West Bank.

The training is made by American, Jordanian and Egyptian experts at the Inter- continental Hotel in Areiha.

Strong security measures were taken around the hotel from which the press was prevented to approach.

On Sunday, the commander of the Palestinian preventive security in the West Bank Maj. Gen. Zuheir Manasrah announced that this "training course is part of a series of training courses aimed at developing the efficiency of the security department, as part of the 100- day plan to achieve reforms carried out by the Palestinian authority, covering the sectors of finance, the economy, security, justice and administration and also in response to the (plan of reforms) prepared by the Palestinian legislative council."

Worthy mentioning that the UN Quartet committee had approved three months earlier these courses, under the participation of four countries which are the US, Egypt, Jordan, and Norway as an observer, according to al-Manaserah. This course will be followed by others, with each of 20 day duration. Certain number of Palestinian army officers will be taking part in these courses.
