Minister pledges territorial administration's firmness in implementation of electoral law
Morocco, Politics, 9/17/2002
Moroccan interior minister said here Saturday the territorial administration (the interior ministry's administrations) will be firm in implementing the law throughout all stages of the elections of September 27 to chose members of the house of representatives.
Jettou told a press conference walis (senior governors) and governors have held meetings with heads of lists to draw their attention to the need to avoid anything that might obstruct the smooth running of the electoral campaign and to strictly comply with the law.
He singled out in particular vote buying, the use of mosques in campaigns and the need to respect the voters' choice.
In this regard, he said several officers of the interior ministry have faced suspension or temporarily called back from their positions for abuses or intervening for some candidates or because of their family relations with some candidates.
He went on that political parties also need to honor their duty to guarantee the honesty of elections.
