Strong measures to protect new Israeli ambassador to Mauritania
Mauritania-Israel, Politics, 9/17/2002

The new Israeli ambassador to Mauritania on Sunday started his diplomatic activity under remarkable security measures for fears he will be exposed to a hostile action.

The moves of the new Israeli ambassador to Nouakchott, Ariel Kereiem, who is the second ambassador for Israel to Mauritania were greatly monitored of fears that he will be attacked by Mauritanians.

The Mauritanian authorities ensured strong security protection for the Israeli ambassador and members of the embassy team. One unit of the special security is stationed in front of the residence of the Israel ambassador, and a similar one in front of the door of the Israeli diplomatic representation office. All roads leading to the Israeli embassy were blocked.

In his first statements following the submission of his credentials to the President of Mauritania Mu'aweya Wild Taye' on Thursday, the Israeli ambassador said that he will work or the promotion of Mauritanian- Israeli relations and bilateral cooperation, exactly like what happened with Jordan and Egypt. But the Israeli diplomat did not define ways and methods he will resort to in order to develop cooperation especially as he is moving in an environment which is totally hostile to him.
