Quartet committee to include Syria
Syria-Regional, Politics, 9/17/2002
In an exclusive report from New York, the Lebanese daily al-Nahar said in its yesterday's issue that the International quartet committee approved the request made by the special committee on the Arab peace initiative to include Syria in the ministerial delegation which will meet today with it. The committee includes the foreign ministers of Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan.
The paper indicated that the Lebanese foreign minister Mahmoud Hammoud had received this approval last Saturday and he called for a meeting for the Arab initiative committee later on Monday to inform about this approval to joining Syria which was approved by the Quartet committee.
Al-Nahar said that Hammoud considered the response of the quartet committee with the special committee of the Arab initiative as a positive indicator for understanding the Arab position.
