Bush calls for not approving the accountability law against Syria
Syria-USA, Politics, 9/16/2002
The Kuwaiti daily al-Anbaa (the news) quoted well-informed media and political reports in Washington saying that the US President George Bush asked the US Congress not to approve the Draft law on "Accountability" relating to Syria.
The paper added that Bush sent a message to the Congressman Robert Wexler in reply to his message in which he expressed his concern over the developed economic relations between Syria and Iraq, in which Bush said that imposing the new sanctions implied by the Syria accountability draft law minimizes "our" options and restrict or ability to deal with the grave and difficult situation in the region in this critical phase.
In his message which is signed September 3, Bush added that the American government shares this very concern, noting that there are serious differences in several areas in which the US has common interests with Syria.
Bush indicated that the running the US relations with Syria requires a critical and well-studied use of all available options in the service of the American interests.
