Alwan: Muslim Brothers and the Islamic Sharia law in Sudan
Sudan, Politics, 9/16/2002

Al-Ikhwan al-Muslimin (The Muslim Brotherhs party) in Sudan announced it will not be soft in dealing with the issue of the "Islamic Sharia", making the Quran as the law, in the country and that it will withdraw from the government if the government drops the Islamic Sharia in Sudan.

The leader of the Al-Ikhwan al-Muslimin in Sudan, Sadeq Abdul Majid, said in a statement to the Sudanese daily Alwan ( colors) issued on Sunday that the peace negotiations in Mashakos were targeting the Islamic Sharia in the country and to have Sudan ruled by the southern rebel movement, the USA and the western states, and that dropping the Islamic Sharia from the government in the next negotiations will lead to the withdrawal of the (muslim brothers) from the government.

He added he expects mediators to interfere to continue the pressure on the Sudanese government in order to resume peace negotiations with the rebels and these negotiations should only start after restoring back the city of Tourit.

Abdul Majid played down the importance of the participation of Egypt, Libya and the Sudanese opposition coalition in the coming negotiations, noting that their participation will obstruct the negotiations.
