Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri started official talks with President Hosni Mubarak immediately after arrival in Cairo on Thursday.

ΚΚΚ The two leaders started talks with a one-on-one meeting which took place in parallel with another meeting between the delegations from the two sides.

ΚΚΚ The trade exchange volume between Indonesia and Egypt has reached $ 250 million in 2001. Indonesia imports textiles, fruits and phosphates from Egypt while the latter imports wood, paper, chemicals, plastics, tires, gum and tuna from Indonesia.

ΚΚΚ Egypt caps a multi-leg tour that took Megawati to South Africa, Algeria, Hungary, Bosnia and Croatia over two weeks.

ΚΚΚ During her three-day visit, Megawati will meet with President Hosni Mubarak and will discuss the Middle East developments and regional and international issues of mutual concern.

ΚΚΚ Megawati will also meet with Al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Sayed Tantawi and will have a tour through major tourist attractions and industrial projects in Beheira governorate.

ΚΚΚ Egypt's Minister of Public Business Sector Mukhtar Khattab and Minister of Foreign Trade Youssef Boutros Ghali met late on Thursday with Indonesia's Minister of Transportation Agum Gumlar and Minister of Trade and Industry Rini Suwandi.

ΚΚΚ Negotiations are under way to work out a long-term contract on exporting 10,000 Egyptian-made buses over the next ten years to Indonesia, Khattab said.

ΚΚΚ The visiting ministers toured an Egyptian car showroom in the eastern district of Nasr City.

ΚΚΚ Egypt and Indonesia expressed desire to develop bilateral relations in the trade and industry fields during talks held on Thursday between visiting Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri and President Hosni Mubarak. The Egyptian Industry Minister told reporters.

ΚΚΚ Dr. Ali El Sa'edi said his talks with Indonesian Industry and Trade Minister Rini Suwandi covered a number of deals in the transportation field.

ΚΚΚ Indonesia imports textiles, fruits and phosphates from Egypt, he pointed out.

ΚΚΚ Stressing the strength of relations between the two countries, Sa'edi expected a boost in bilateral cooperation in the coming period especially after Megawati's visit.
