Egypt rejects any aggression against Iraq
Egypt-Iraq, Politics, 9/14/2002

Egypt announced on Friday its rejection of any strike against Iraq and demanded solving the standoff with the US within the framework of the UN Charter and resolutions.

ÊÊÊ Addressing the UN General Assembly's 57th session, Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher said that Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity should be respected and that the suffering of the Iraqi people and the siege on them should be ended.

ÊÊÊ Maher asked Iraq at the same time to respect the will of the international legitimacy in order to spare the Iraqi peoples more suffering.

ÊÊÊ Maher asked the international community not to confuse terrorism with the legitimate right of self-defense, in conformity with the values and rights to resist occupation which were the same values which liberated the US more than two centuries ago. ÒThese were also the same values which liberated Europe from the Nazi despots,Ó added Maher.

ÊÊÊ Maher asked Israel to shed off its greed and dreams and stop its aggression against the Palestinian people, their lands and their legitimate leadership and to let them establish their own independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. Justice, mutual respect and the return of rights to their rightful climate were the basics on which peace between Egypt and Israel stood, said Maher.
