Elections watchdog calls for rigorous application of electoral law
Morocco, Politics, 9/14/2002
A group of non-governmental associations, gathered in a watchdog on elections, called authorities to apply the electoral law "rigorously" to guarantee the sincerity and security of the coming legislative poll, to be held September 27. The "Collectif Associatif pour l'Observation des Elections" is a NGO made up of twenty associations acting in local development, women, youth and culture, aims to foster citizens' awareness and involvement in the electoral process.
Abdelaziz Bennani, member of the group, said at a press conference Tuesday that the electoral law provides for legal guarantees for transparent elections, through the adoption of the list system, the use of indelible ink, and tightening sanctions against electoral fraud, either during the campaign or on the polling day.
