Al-Watan: Iraq relations with Saudi Arabia are good
Iraq-Saudi Arabia, Economics, 9/14/2002
The Iraqi trade minister Muhammad Mahdi Saleh has announced that the volume of trade exchange between his country and Saudi Arabia reached 2 billion dollars.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Saudi daily al-Watan, Saleh said that the Ar'ar border crossing will open very soon so as commodities will be exported from Saudi Arabia to Iraq directly, and that Saudi Arabia will hold a special exhibition for its products in Iraq in October, stressing that things are moving in a positive way with Saudi Arabia.
On the other hand, the Iraqi minister explained that his country's revenues from oil reached in 1989, before the Gulf war, 20 billion dollars, and Iraq was at the time able to cover its debts estimated at 40 billion dollars before the sanctions were imposed on it in 1991 when Iraq was prohibited from benefiting from its resources.
