Iraqi referendum on presidency in October

The Iraqi news agency said Sunday that the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein intends to have a referendum on his presidency in mid October
The agency said that a presidential decree was issued on Sunday and set Tuesday, October 5 as a date for making the referendum on the post of President of Iraq.
The agency continued that the decree which was signed by Hussein following the nomination of the parliament for him in August to assume the post for an additional term. Hussein, 65 years old, said in September that any American attack against Iraq will be doomed to failure. On October 5, the first referendum will be made on the post of the president since the declaration of the Republican regime in Iraq following the revolution of 1958 which toppled the royal regime.
